Raw Feeding

Its simple, a Prey Model Raw diet is the only biologically appropriate diet for your carnivore. Switching a pet with an existing health problem to a raw diet can often result in improvement of their conditions. Healthy pets who start on a raw diet are more likely to avoid some of the illnesses that are common in kibble fed pets. Most importantly, wouldn't you like to know every single ingredient in your pets food?

• Most kibble is plant based therefore not dietary accessible for digestion and not species appropriate; chemicals, food coloring, and preservatives have been added to extend shelf life with kibble. 
• The source of meat is unknown to consumer. 
• Many kibble manufacturers source their meat from rendering plants, meat unfit for human consumption, including chemically denatured meats and/or spoiled meats. 
• Most kibble includes corn and corn syrup. 
• Corn is a major contributor to canine diabetes and pancreatitic problems. 
• Many kibble brands are repeatedly recalled for mold or samonella contamination in the kibble. 
• Kibble fed dogs do not have the stomach acid to digest the occasional bone they get as a treat, and therefore risk injury to the stomach or intestine, as well as blockage. 
• Kibble with its grain and sugar are a major contributors to cancer and arthritis. 
• Kibble fed dogs have a higher percentage of tooth decay and are in periodical need of dental cleanings by the veternarian. 

• All of our puppies are weaned onto to raw diet just like all of our breeders. 
• Your puppy will come home with 3 days worth of raw. 
• We HIGHLY recommend continuing the raw diet for atleast 1 order (30-40 days worth). Your puppy will be experiencing a ton of new changes when joining your family - new surroundings, new people, possible new fur siblings, etc. One less change at that same time will help with adjustment to your new home.
• We have MANY new puppy parents that are adamant about not continuing raw (swapping to kibble, etc), but as soon as the puppy eats that first raw meal in their new home, we receive that message "HOW CAN I CONTINUE THIS? I'm ready to order now." Having a full order on hand will allow you to easily continue without having to try to order last minute. 
• If you do not want to continue raw after that first order, then you are more than wecome to transition to a kibble, etc. 
• If you are choosing a delivery option via flying, you will NEED to order the raw diet atleast once. We cannot send any of their diet with them when they fly due to it needing to stay frozen and airline regulations. For transition purposes, you will want to have the raw diet for when your new puppy arrives.
• Want to continue raw but ran out before your order arrived? For a short period of time you can feed just ground meat with no seasonings from the grocery store (ground chicken is our preference). This cannot be long term, we recommend no longer than 1 week. 

• Your usual stores for dog food do NOT carry this diet. The "Raw Diets" they carry are still made the same way as kibble and are usually partially cooked with poor quality ingredients.

• If you are feeding only 1 Miniature Dachshund, then I recommend purchasing the "Complete Mix - Sample Pack" from RawFedK9 which is 10lbs of fully balanced patties and will feed the average Miniature Dachshund for 40 days. In order to get the variety of proteins, always choose "Original" then "Trio" (Chicken/Beef/Pork blend) for Mix A, then selecting "Original" and any other red meat (duck, venison, quail) for Mix B. I'll have examples of this order posted. 
• Does raw feeding not suit your lifestyle? Do you prefer a "scoop & serve" option? ZiwiPeak is an air-dried PMR diet option. All the same nutrients, just in a convienent "scoop & serve" option. However, I do not find this food to be as "engaging" for the pet. You can purchase Ziwi Peak on Amazon or Chewy; the 2.2 lb bag should last roughly 1 month (air-dried food weighs a lot less); just rotate varieties with every order.
